Hedley Sparkes
With heavy hearts the family would like to announce the sudden passing of Hedley George Sparkes on Saturday, April 20, 2024 in his 78th. year surrounded by his loving family.

A man who loved and enjoyed life he leaves to mourn his loving wife and soul mate of 58 years, Bertha; two loving daughters, Janice (Roger) and Wendy (Keith) and one who was considered his third daughter, Bev (Kevin); his grandchildren, who he was proud of beyond measure: Justin (Tiffany), Jordan (Erica), Merissa (Andreas), Gavin and Ashley; great grandchildren: Wyatt, Addison, Skye, Jaden, Hannah, Callie and Ava; two special nephews, Matthew (Amy) and Marcus (Korri); loving brother, Leonard (Benetta), sister, Marjorie; sister-in-law, Doris (Melvin); brother-in-law, Renson (Lorraine); other nephews, nieces, extended family and a large circle of friends.

Predeceased by his parents, Herbert George and Mary Sparkes; sisters, Francis and Annie; brothers-in-law, Walt Rodgers and Nelson Tucker; mother and father-in-law, Willis and Clara Matthews.

A man well respected in the community, Hedley lived life to the fullest, cherishing his family who were everything to him. He worked hard all of his life from start to finish, a career that started as a teacher in Charlston, Hickman's Harbour and finally ending in Hant's Harbour. Hedley also worked as an orderly at the Hoyles Home and then moved to the Wilkinson Memorial Health Centre where many stories and fond memories were recalled over the years. Shortly after leaving his orderly job he went to work at Earle's Fish Plant and then on to QuinSea where he finished his working career after suffering an injury. Even though his paid work life ended, his work ethic never did, as every day he could be seen working around his home from daylight to dark. He was always there to give a helping hand to anyone who wished to ask for it.

A special thank you is extended to Dr. Nel for his excellent care over the years. Thank you also to Dr. Holloway, Dr. Kehoe and the medical staff of Wilkinson Memorial Health Center and to the medical staff of the Carbonear General Hospital, especially the 6th. floor staff for their care and professionalism during his short stay. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the ambulance staff of Old Perlican and to those who stayed and comforted Hedley while they waited for the ambulance to arrive. Your compassion will be forever appreciated.
